5 Hidden TikTok Privacy Settings You Should Turn on Right Now

Tiktok  is an incredible platform for entertainment  and content creation, but is also collects a massive amount of data about your browsing habits and personal information. If you want to protect your digital footprint, stop unwanted accounts from messaging you, and control who sees your content, you need to audit your security.

Many of the app's strongest security tools are hidden deep within your account profile. Here are 5 hidden Tiktok privacy settings you should review and turn on immediately.

1. Turn Off " Suggest Your Account to Others"

By default, TikTok automatically recommends your profile to your phone contacts, Facebook friends,  and people who open links you send them. If you want to keep your personal life and your social media presence completely separate,  go to privacy settings, tap " suggest your account to others," and toggle of all the options.

2. Restrict Your Direct Messages(DMs)

To prevent spam bots, scammed, and random strangers from flooding your inbox with dangerous links  change your DM settings. Navigate to the Privacy menu, tap "Direct Messages," and switch the setting from " Everyone" to "Friends" or "No one." This ensures only people  you actually know and follow can massage you.

3. Disable Your Profile View History

Tiktok has a built-in feature that let's other users see exactly when you visit their profile page. If you prefer to browse the app anonymously without creators knowing you looked at their grid, go to your privacy settings, scroll down to "Profile views," and turn it completely off.

4. Manage Your Personalized Ad Data

Tiktok tracks the videos you watch, the hash tags you click and even your external Web browsing history to serve you target advertisements. You can limit this data collection by going to settings, tapping "Ads,"  and toggling off "personalized Ads." This forces the app to stop tracking  your off-app habits.

5. Block Downloads of Your Videos

If you don't want random users downloading your original video directly to their phone galleries or re- uploading  them to other websites without your permission, you can lock it down. Under the privacy tab, tap "Downloads" and switch the toggle ot off. Viewers will still be able to watch and share your video inside Tiktok, but they can't save the raw file.
